Jamaican the Alpaca Crazy
If you ever want pot, Jamaica has plenty of it. I say this because we were offered plenty of it everywhere we went in Jamaica, and when we said no (we have no interest in illicit drugs, whether in Jamaica or elsewhere), they were actually offended. In fact, one aggressive dealer wanted to know why we came to Jamaica if we hate Jamaican people. Right.
We went to Jamaica as a one-day stop on a cruise for the express purpose of climbing Dunns River Falls (http://www.dunnsriverja.com/), a waterfall that tourists literally climb up. It's really great fun - you start at the bottom, where the waterfall meets the ocean. You form a human (and Alpaca) chain and you take turns stepping (with treaded water shoes, of course), on, over and across the large rocks along the waterfall's sides. Knowing that this was what we wanted to do in Jamaica, and knowing that we would need water shoes, we went on a trek to find a pair for husband's size 15s. No luck, and we tried everywhere. Even tried to special order them. Husband planned to use older tennis shoes in lieu of water shoes, but we were very pleased to find that they had water shoes in husband's size at the base of Dunns River Falls! And only $15! Excellent.
After Dunns River Falls, we made our way to a cab and did a bit of a tour of Jamaica along the route back to the port. Since we still had plenty of time in port, we got off at a shopping center near the port and did a little looky-looing before heading back. One store was dedicated almost entirely to hot sauce. Wonder if they get a lot of business for hot sauce in Jamaica...
