Santorini is (Blue Domed) Tops!

Traveling Alpaca loved Santorini (http://www.santorini.net/110.html?&no_cache=1). With its breathtaking sunsets, blue-domed churches, fantastic views from far, far above the water and its cobblestone streets, Santorini was a sight for sore eyes. We stayed in a lovely resort in Fira and took advantage of the pool and hot tub, as well as the bar, where the Alpaca almost fell off the barstool after trying Ouzo. The Alpaca visited the newly discovered city of Akrotiri (http://www.santorini.net/129.html?&no_cache=1, buried in rubble from a long-ago volcano and only recently discovered), then headed to the Caldera to climb the volcano (http://www.greeka.com/cyclades/santorini/santorini-volcano.htm) and take some amazing shots of Santorini, next to the muddy hot springs (http://www.urban75.org/photos/santorini/santorini070.html) at the base of another portion of the caldera off the coast of Santorini, and finally to Ia, where we strolled the streets, did a little souvenir shopping and had dinner at the end of the island, where it was rumored you could view the best sunsets. Traveling Alpaca enjoyed the fantastic food, superb service and the romantic setting at the lovely but somewhat pricey Kastro (http://www.fodors.com/miniguides/mgresults.cfm?destination=cyclades@599&cur_section=din&property_id=29237).

It was toasty, but muddy.
